DISCLAIMER:  You should only download an iDyl firmware upgrade file following explicit consultation with DF Solutions, to ensure that previous compulsory firmware revisions have been first installed.

Instructions

The following downloads are MILESTONE downloads.  Each upgrade must be applied in turn.  Ie. to upgrade from a unit currently on v2.6, you need first of all to upgrade to v2.78, THEN to v3.76, THEN to v4.xx.  Each individual upgrade necessitates the following steps:

1) Download relevant upgrade file to your PC.  DO NOT rename this file.

2) Remove any CD/DVD from the iDyl tray.

3) Copy the upgrade from your PC and paste into \\iDyl\upgrade, or \\VNodex\upgrade if upgrading a VNode (replace 'x' with the number of the relevant unit).

4) Wait for upgrade and system reset.

5) Upgrade is now finished.

Version Information []

Major changes include:

  • v3.78: VNC password has been changed.  Please contact us for more information.

  • v3.89: Philips TSU9600 integration, offering full 2-way audio library navigation and selection, with cover art.
  • v3.89: Integrated web server (on port 8081).  Browse the iDyl/VNodes content repository via web-page, and stream directly to your PC.
  • v3.89: New API message ("Txt").  Enables direct text entry (via emulated keyboard from Crestron/AMX/similar).
  • v3.89: New API message ("DVDParentalLevelSet").  Enables remote configuration of the maximum viewable DVD rating.
  • v3.90: VNodes have a new option under "DVD Options" called 'Synchronize Policy'.  Defaulted to 'Synchronize with iDyl', VNodes now automatically see changes to metadata and reviews if downloaded on the iDyl.
  • v3.97: Handling of multi-disc DVD releases.  Allows individual discs to be 'grouped' and appear as a single entry in the main DVD Browse screen.  Increases ease and speed of library browsing.
  • v3.97: Many improvements to all aspects of browsing, managing and editing your DVDs from the iDyl TV GUI.
  • v3.97: DVD Genre: You can now specify your own custom genre. Press <OK> to enter text-entry mode instead of cycling through the predefined options.
  • v4.03: If an MP3 file is added to the idyl with an embedded cover-image, the iDyl will extract this and copy it to \\idyl\audio\[ARTIST]\[ALBUM]\folder.jpg, for seamless cover-art integration between both systems.
  • v4.03: Much faster DVDBrowsing performance.
  • v4.03: Read-only units: VNodes and iDyls can have 'Read-only' permissions set under 'Advanced Settings'. As such, these units will not be able to delete/edit tracks+playlists, or edit/delete DVDs or add/edit/delete Slideshows.
  • v4.03: Real-time audio content tracking: Until now, the iDyl does a modicum of real-time content tracking on it's local hard-disk (Vnodes don’t do any). However there is no real-time tracking of content on NAS devices, or cover-art. So if you change a cover-art, or add/amend/delete a track, this will only be shown on the iDyl/VNode after the next reboot.

V4.03 has continuous, parallel 'content tracking' which will ensure that all units are always updating to reflect ANY changes you make to the content on the network, as you use iTunes/Windows Media Player/etc.. No more reboots required.

NB: The tracking isn't instantaneous. Please allow time for changes to reflect on the GUI and from control interfaces, possibly between 5 and 60 minutes depending on how many NAS devices there are, the total number of tracks and if the unit in question is a VNode or iDyl (VNodes are set to update slower than iDyls, to reduce network/disk overhead).

  • v4.03: Performance boost: Associated with the above change, performance has been radically improved. You will notice the start up time and the time to initially access your 'Browse Albums/DVD' screen will have reduced significantly (easier noticed if you have alot of audio content).
  • v4.03: Cover-art improvement: Problem scenario: You are installing an iDyl, but want to leave the client's audio collection on a NAS device. Also, the audio collection is very badly organized (ie. directory hierarchy does not follow conventional ARTIST\ALBUM\TRACK.mp3 convention. After setting up the 'Manage Network Folders' screen on the iDyl, the iDyl is now showing these MP3s (fine), but there is no cover-art for them being shown (as the iDyl needs localized cover-art under \\idyl\audio). You then have to jump through all sorts of hoops to get album onto the iDyl. The new version does the following steps:

As content (an MP3/WMA etc) is identified on a NAS device, it looks to see if there's a folder.jpg in the same directory. If there is, the iDyl caches this onto the iDyl, using the ALBUM/ARTIST info embedded in the ID3-tag. Album art will instantly display on the iDyl GUI, and fixes this scenario.

This change is designed to make the iDyl co-exist better with 3rd party software+systems.

NB: iTunes no longer embeds cover-art in MP3s, or places a folder.jpg in the same folder as the audio files.  iTunes now caches cover-art in an encrypted location on the users computer, thereby preventing + restricting any other product from co-existing seamlessly with audio files ripped via iTunes.  Therefore DF Solutions recommends better software such as WinAmp, Windows Media Player and other software to import + manage your CD collection.

  • v4.03: Slideshows: Better performance (less memory hungry), but 5 second refresh intervals have been removed; 10 seconds is the minimum time unless manually cycled.
  • v4.03 (BETA FUNCTIONALITY): Party Mode / Synchronized audio between outputs (does not apply to VNodes, 1-zone iDyls or video-playback). This Beta-feature must be turned on within 'Advanced Settings', and the iDyl rebooted. There will now be a new option under 'Music', called 'Other Output'. Selecting this, then another zone will allow you to synchronize/listen to another audio output/zone.
  • v4.07: Changes required for new Room Commander software.
  • v4.11: A fail-safe check which checks for excessively large memory usage; between 2 and 4am (and the units aren't being used), a unit will reboot itself silently if it decides there is a potential memory leak-issue.
  • v4.19:  CD Importing multi-threaded implementation (iDyl can be used while CD is importing)
  • v4.19:  CD Importing has also been enabled on VNodes (but automated CD-importing is not available)
  • v4.23: Multilingual DVD information is available (set Country under Basic Settings).

  • v3.86: RS232 comms now work with port 4.

  • v4.19:  Improved cover-art functionality when importing CD
  • v4.19:  The 'Default' import location (so that the user is not prompted where to store a DVD/CD) has been modified: it has been split, so separate default import locations can be specified for both CDs and DVDs.
